Last Tuesday Sugarfree said goodbye.

There seems to be some cray voodoo being cast on the Philippine music scene. Last November we lost NU. I think we're on the brink of something here. It's almost peculiar that it's happening when everyone I know is making the shift into "the real world". Maybe it's an end of an era or maybe we're meant to make something out it. In all sincerity: I'd take a job directly related to the music scene even if it has nothing to do with my degree.

There's a story behind those mascots. I was drawing them in class while listening to my Ipod. I didn't realize my grandpa prof had already arrived and had just finished attendance. I wasn't sitting beside anybody because I was sick. No one poked me to pay attention.

Karen Tries to be "expressionist"coughcough Pretentious

Check it. I don't get it.

Instructions were to compare and contrast expressionism with fauvism using our seatemates as (unfortunate) subjects. In safer and less academic terms: sad vs. *happy.

This wasn't a fine arts class. I was amused at our "i-do-not-know-how-to-draw" disclaimers which eventually became the background music of the activity.

Truth be told, this class is not half bad. Tuesdays and Thursdays are my look-at-pretty-pictures days.

*I had no battery left for the happy side.

My tiny irony this Christmas is listening to The White Stripes' (whose band colors scream candy cane). "Get Behind Me Satan". I haven't gotten around to listening to At The Drive In Yet because it isn't season appropriate. It'll find its place in my stereo once the terror of holiday homework rears its ugly head.

Repeating the word bokeh makes it sound less artsy-fartsy and pretentious. Sometimes it also sounds like a street food if you say it with a little bit of phlegm. "bokugheh bokugeh"

I watched *cough* I meant looked at Tron Legacy the other day. There really wasn't much to think about. Anyone with the slightest bit of an IQ can predict the story after about half an hour. But to be honest, it's not as bad as I'm making it sound in terms of eye and ear candy. Think of it as one long Daft Punk music video with pretty light ribbons.

The 80's version would have thrilled me more if I was alive to see it back then. Cause ya know, special effects in that decade were like HUWOWMYGODMYBRAINEXPLODES.

Anyway...

Story (or lack of) aside, Tron was a movie made for merchandise. I say this with complete respect for its producers and marketing team. A crap sci-fi movie is always marketable in other industries. I don't care that Tron Legacy wasn't all that great...I still want this:

Think about it. There's always going to be a place for movies like Tron because it takes some amount of creative thinking to translate it into visuals.The art department is going to have to design a world that doesn't actually exist. Maybe their concept doesn't always fit so snugly into a movie but it does in other places. The whole movie-to-merchandise formula is relatively new- and i love it. I don't understand why this idea took so long. The translation from movie concept to tangible goods can be really clever! (although bordering on absurd)

I bet George Lucas figured this out when he decided to create Star Wars. Now look, Darth Vader has a piggy bank made in his image.
